Well, it’s finally happened. The World of David Walliams at Alton Towers is permanently closing, effective from today, 3 November 2026.
The area, which opened in 2021, featured Gangsta Granny: The Ride, Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp and The Royal Carousel. It was a sizeable investment for the resort (reportedly £18 million for the Ganster Granny Ride alone) , but one that never really captured our imagination.
At Theme Park Daily, we’ll admit we weren’t exactly regular visitors. The theming never really did much for us, and our main reason for heading into the area was usually to take younger family members to the driving school.
A Merlin Entertainments spokesperson said:
“As the 2026 peak season at Alton Towers Resort comes to an end and following our regular review of rides and attractions across the resort, we have taken the decision to permanently close the World of David Walliams.”
So, what happens next?
That’s the really interesting bit. Alton Towers has confirmed that plans for the future use of the area will be announced once they have been finalised.
Does that mean a brand-new family attraction is already in the pipeline or will the gates simply remain shut while the resort works out its next move?
For now, we don’t know. There’s no confirmed replacement, and the future of the existing rides and buildings remains unclear.
One thing is certain: Alton Towers has a decent-sized chunk of space to play with, and we’d certainly welcome this are become a popular destination for theme park fans again
What would you like to see replace The World of David Walliams?
