Theme Park Dictionaries and Slang Words!-GUEST STORYGUEST

Hi, I’m Evie, and I’m ‘Just a girl in a big world!’ If you don’t know me, I post about days out to theme parks and so much more. If you’re interested, please do go and follow my TikTok: @altontowers32.

Before I get on to the article, many thanks to mimi_themeparklife and Mandrill Bill for having me, and a massive congratulations to them with Theme Park Daily. It’s safe to say it’s carried the community!

Now, on to today’s topic: theme park slang and theme park terms. This is perfect for newer enthusiasts and the general public to learn about the ‘secret language’ we communicate in.

GPs: In the theme park community, it stands for general public (people who don’t study theme parks and roller coasters in this context).

Airtime/Hangtime: The floaty feeling of lifting out of your seat on a roller coaster. Don’t worry, it’s totally safe, and a lot of people love this feeling!

Inversion: Going upside down on a ride, often through a loop. It’s sometimes referred to as being on the wrong side up!

Greying Out/Blacking Out: Experiencing dizziness, headaches, and other symptoms when riding an intense ride or experiencing an intense element.

Train: The carriage or car that people sit in on a roller coaster or ride.

Chain Lift/Lift Hill: The mechanism that brings the train up an inclined hill, which can sometimes be very steep or even vertical.

Block Sections: Sections of track with sensors that tell the ride’s control system whether it’s safe for a train to enter that section. They also help allow multiple trains to operate on the track at once.

Valley: When a train comes to a slow stop after losing momentum in a dip in the track, sometimes rocking back and forth.

Thoosie: A theme park enthusiast!

How to Tell Different Ride Manufacturers Apart

Vekoma: They build Boomerangs, SLCs and family coasters.

B&M (Bolliger & Mabillard): Known for smooth, high-capacity giants.

Intamin: Known for record-breakers and launch coasters.

Gerstlauer: Known for Euro-Fighters, Infinity Coasters and spinning rides.

Mack Rides: Known for family coasters, water coasters and spinning coasters.

GCI: Known for wooden roller coasters.

If you’ve read to the end, I’m so, so thankful! It’s truly a dream of mine to be featured in something so special to me, like Theme Park Daily.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me at @altontowers32.

Thank you so, so much for having me, Theme Park Daily!

Evie (justagirlinabigworld).
