WHAT I WOULD DO WITH AN UNLIMITED BUDGET AT ALTON TOWERS

We've all daydreamed about all the changes we'd make to our local parks. And don't get me wrong, Alton Towers is an amazing park... but everyone wants something different — so here's what my ideal Alton Towers would look like!

WHAT I WOULD DO WITH AN UNLIMITED BUDGET AT ALTON TOWERS

LET'S START WITH FORBIDDEN VALLEY

Arguably the overall best area at the park. I would retheme Galactica to the Phalanx, and I don't think that needs an explanation. I would also rename Forbidden Valley to something less vague and more related to the Nemesis lore, such as 'Phalanx Containment Zone'. Other than that, this is pretty much a perfect area. For the Galactica retheme, I would make it a prequel story to the Nemesis lore, to when the monster was in the other dimension in some sort of space-type place, paying homage to Galactica/Air's original theme. I think a pre-show would be really cool for this too. One small change I would make to Nemesis Reborn (a near-perfect ride) is give it a single rider queue. With Nemesis's operations you'd get through that queue quicker than Stealth on a hot summer day!

NOW FOR DARK FOREST

This is probably my least favourite thrill ride area at the park — but these things would probably make it the best.

First of all, I would scrap Rita altogether, as it is my least favourite thrill coaster in the park and I can't see it having too long left anyway. I would replace it with an Intamin blitz (to keep it as the Intamin forest) and give it theming like Thirteen. I like the idea of escaping the Dark Forest, so I would keep that element, such as the 'you must escape' audio, once again paying homage to Rita's original theming.

Personally, I love Thirteen and I think it's so underrated — yes, it does rely on the trees for theming, but the station and indoor section more than make up for that, so I wouldn't make any changes there.

I would remove the fairground-type games you see as you enter the area, as they just look tacky and take away from the theming. They are also closed a lot and I rarely see anyone there. Basically, they are just as useful as Colossus's airtime hill. Instead, there could be more theming pieces and seating.

NOW FOR MUTINY BAY

I love this area and think it's so cool. I've had discussions with my friends before about how cool it would be if Wicker Man was themed more to pirates, with cannons and things like that — but it would be a CRIME to change anything about Wicker Man's theming now.

I actually think the games in this area are okay, since it's more of a kids' area and I actually do see people there.

I don't have much to say about Mutiny Bay, as I think it's pretty good as it is.

KATANGA CANYON

Don't worry — we're going to be remaining seated and choo choo-ing in this next area still. That's right — I think Katanga Canyon is almost a perfect area. Yes, I made many changes to Forbidden Valley, which probably is the best in the park, but I have a lot of bias for Katanga Canyon because it was my whole childhood. This might sound insane for a thrill seeker, but I'd probably be the saddest if Runaway Mine Train got removed out of most coasters in the park. And now the Watering Hole has been added, this area is all-round amazing.

THE FINAL AREA I WILL BE ALTERING: X-SECTOR

Two words. FLAT. RIDE.

Alton Towers, I am BEGGING you: add a HUSS Breakdance ride indoors, themed to the Marmaliser. This is a very popular opinion amongst thoosies, and I think — with the right theming — it would be a people eater. I think two flat rides would be best for X-Sector, as they definitely have the space, so I think two drop towers side by side themed to Oblivion would be amazing. Speaking of Oblivion... some people may not love this, but I would replace Oblivion with a Vekoma tilt. I would keep the theming similar, of course, and still use the hole. We're paying a whole lot of homage today.

And that is everything I would do to make Towers just that bit better. But this is just my opinion, and you might love it as it is! Let's be honest, it's such an amazing park and they've been doing such a good job recently.

Thank you for reading.
